Come explore the fundamentals of crochet as we work together on a simple project to foster the learning process. In our two hour classes we will start by exploring the following; pairing of yarn and hook, gauge, the chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet, and treble crochet. Once we all have a good base and our first crochet swatch, we’ll review the basics of reading patterns as we begin our first project together; a pair of mitts. Materials: US H hook, worsted weight wool of a single color, 5 locking stitch markers (4 one color and 1 in a different color) please buy your class supplies at the store before the class begins Skill Level: Beginner

A granny square is like a plain sheet of paper. Sure, it comes in different colors, textures, sizes and weights however in and of itself, it’s not very exciting until you use it as an integral part of your creative process. During our two hour class we will explore the basic structure of a granny square as we make one traditional style square using a basic worsted weight wool. Our second square will not be a square at all, we’ll step it up as a more interesting polygon. You will leave the class with a new respect for the humble Granny square and how to bring it to life in your crochet journey. This class is for all – knitters, crocheters, weavers, spinners, dyers, and other artists - who love color and want to understand palettes, be more deliberate about color choices, and develop confidence about their colors. It utilizes Gist Yarn’s Palette Scout color deck (included in the class cost). We’ll start out with some basic color theory, play with some guided palette development, and work into some creative challenges. Participants are encouraged to bring a picture or textile they like. A printed photo or book will work best.
